on Nothing |
The project explores the concept of silence and aims to complicate the notion of deep listening. Referencing John Cage’s positive use of silence as a means to appreciate non-musical sounds, the work performs Cage’s ideas through a reading of his “Lecture on Nothing” by a deaf individual. In doing so, I imagine a performative investigation of Cage’s theories that might also create an ambiguous space of silence. The work was installed as a single speaker in a room. Exhibited
